Wound Recovery Guide
Scar & Incision Care
Active wound protection and targeted scar tissue management prevent keloid formulation, reduce localized discomfort, and maintain skin flexibility after spinal or cranial surgery.
Phase 1: Early Incision Protection (Weeks 0 - 2)
Clinical Incision Guidelines
- Keep dressing dry: Maintain a clean, dry surgical dressing. Take gentle showers; do not submerge the wound in baths or pools.
- Monitor suture lines: Check for expanding redness, warmth, or drainage daily. Report changes to the clinic nurse immediately.
- Suture removal: Arrange suture or skin glue removal typically at Day 10-12 post-operatively.
Phase 2: Scar Tissue Mobilisation (Weeks 3 - 8)
Clinical Incision Guidelines
- Gentle scar massage: Once sutures are removed and the skin is fully closed, perform gentle desensitization circular massage across the scar with water-based lotion.
- Apply silicone sheets: Integrate clinical silicone gel or sheets for 12-24 hours daily to flatten the scar tissue and preserve skin elasticity.
Phase 3: Long-term Protection & UV Shielding (Weeks 8+)
Clinical Incision Guidelines
- Sunscreen protection: Scar tissue is highly sensitive to ultraviolet light. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen for at least 12 months when outdoors.
- Hydration: Apply Vitamin E creams to soothe the matured scar line and keep surrounding tissues flexible.
